Edina Cars has a "Quote your Own Price" system which is anything but. The guest house that my friend and I were staying at had an arrangement that the ride to the airport would cost £19 regardless of the time of the day or period of the year. The guest house owner called to arrange for our taxi ride. We left the guest house on 3rd January 2011 at 430AM. Exploiting the fact that we were staying at lodgings that did not have 24 hour reception and leaving at wee hours of the morning where there were hardly any cabs in the vicinity, the cab driver told us that it was a bank holiday and that the holiday period ends at 6AM on 3rd January, meaning that we had missed the "normal fare" period by one and a half hours. He then estimated the trip to come up to £40 to £50. We had no choice but to agree since we had a flight to catch and there was no other alternative. Upon clarifications with the guest house owner, who clarified the situation with Edina, they were adamant that my friend and I willingly accepted the price despite our rather vulnerable situation as described above. And clearly insisting that the agreement we made in a state of desperation overrides the pre-existing £19 rate which the guest house we were staying at had used during previous new year periods. It is glaringly obvious that the taxi company had failed to communicate or enforce the £19 rate that they had agreed upon from the start and are pushing the blame to vulnerable consumers like myself. NEVER TAKE EDINA!!! (1/5)
